WHY ARE WE HERE?
By Joel Nelson

The rave scene is growing and it is becoming full of new faces of every color and class, but why do hundreds of people flock to raves every weekend? Drugs have become a major part of the rave scene and there is nothing that can stop that, dance floors have become camp grounds to people who sit and stare, not even knowing what PLUR is. But if that is the only reason you come to raves Then you should not waist your time, or money, ruining the scene as if its just some dumb trend that is new and cool. Raves aren't just a place to go and get messed up its about Dancing! Peace! Love! Unity! and Respect! Instead of making raves a trend make it a civilization and culture, a part of your every day life not just a weekend masquerade.

COMMENTS:

I think the scene goes through cycles all the time. Every year, new people enter the scene and bring new ideas and new behavior in with them. Almost everyone who does drugs will abuse it to some extent in the beginning and after a while the fascination will taper off. Some quit completely, some fall into a moderate pattern and some will only do them sporadically... and some... well. I think it's great that we are starting to "police" ourselves. All the rhetoric of the "just say no" propaganda on the media is nothing (if not anti productive) next to the words of true experiences that come from our own peers. We must share our knowledge with each other without sounding holier than thou. We must warn each other against the dangers of drug abuse without preaching over each other's heads. The police, the media and the politicians are poised to air the first drug related fatality at a rave in order to put the wheels in motion to make raves illegal. Although part of me wants to see that happen just so that raves become true underground events again, most of me hopes it never happens. Because if the rave scene is driven underground soon we will see a MUCH worse situation with 12-13 year old runaways dead in the corner with a needle stuck in their arms.

So, I'd like to join Joel in asking all of us to rethink "why we are here?" Is it the music (and the meaning behind it) or is it the drugs? Maybe a good way to find the answer is to consider which one would you rather go without. You might feel a little bored in the beginning if you went to a rave completely sober. But no matter how much drugs you do, if there is no music you would absolutely hate it.

I urge you to exercise common sense. While you are rolling at a rave with your friends ask yourself: If a cop came up to me right now would I be able to at least look sober? If the answer is no then you are abusing the drug and you are betraying the MAIN reason why you came... the music.

I really agree with what both of you have written. The rave scene is becoming to drug involved and too trendy. if you go to a rave, almost any rave, and ask people about plur, or the meaning behind raves, they won't really be able to give you an answer. There are a lot of new people coming to raves which in some ways is good, but in some ways bead. A problem with all the new people is all the stupidity, getting in car wrecks, taking too many drugs etc. they make the rave scene seem like a bad place, and make it harder for the rest of us to spread the good vibe. There is way to much negative attention about raves from the media and someone needs to do something to open the general publics eyes and show them the good effects that raves have. i've written letters and complaints to dateline about their show on raves, but i haven't really gotten a response, people don't really take me seriously because i'm just one kid. but if enough of us come together we can really make a deiiferance and change the way that people see raves. I'v only seen one report on t.v. that didn't realy show raves in a negative light, and that was for a bout 5 minutes on channel 12. i'm sure not many people saw it. raves are a very safe place, one raver wouldn't do anything to hurt another raver but i agree that the drugs are messing things up for everone. people start doing drugs casually at raves and before they know it they have a dependancy. it sucks and its really hard to stop doing them, but with the support of other people, and going to raves for the RIGHT reasons, anyone can do it.

I really think that a lot of mis understandings about raves are happening because of the police and news reporters. All they want to do is find all the bad things that go on at raves. I actually think that there are more good things than there are bad things that happen at RAVES. Maybe security at the front entrances of these parties should check more better than they do because what i have seen is that even the security buy drugs off of sellers. Another thing is that all this hype about RAVES on news stations and papers are just drawing more attention to people who do drugs and it motivates them to go to parties and sell. All i have to say is that if all this hype cools down, then maybe theres a chance that sellers will stop going to RAVES and stop destroying what RAVES are really about. P.L.U.R.

I've expereienced raves in Wisconsin and in Arizona and I would have to say that the raves here in Arizona are bigger than the ones in Wisconsin but I think Arizona has a bigger problem with raves getting busted and I think the scene has really changed just in the 4 years that I have been raving. I love the scene here but I will agree that something needs to be done about all the drugs being used in the scene I mean if people are going to use than that's there thing but they must keep in mind that they are having a reflect on the scene and the way people look at the scene. It is very hard for people to understand what a rave is if you've never been to one and people are going to spread rumors about our scene but lets just keep them rumors and lets not give people a reason to find things wrong with the scene. PLUR to everyone who's in the scene and anyone who may not be in the scene or people that are thinking about going to a rave just to check it out.

I have talked to so many people that have never been to a rave and they say to me "I've always wanted to go to a rave...aren't those big drug parties?" "People at raves just sit in one spot in a trance right?" This really bothers me because that's not the scene and people are getting the wrong idea about our scene. I've met all kinds of ravers because everytime I go to a rave I have one mission and that is to meet as many people as I can atone rave and I want to meet as many ravers here in Arizona as possible so anyone who reads this Please e-mail me I luv meeting new people.

Peace

I see where you guys are coming from. Me being a first time raver, I can see these things happening. The stupidity of some newcomers give raving a bad name. I don't want ravers to see me as a senceless newcomer. I enjoy it for the music and the love. Yeah I do e from time to time, but I don't make it a must every time I go, because where would we be without the music. My friend Noel and I feel the same way about the feeling we get when we hear techno. It relaxes you yet gives you so much energy and passion that you just want to burst. Well keep up the inspirering articles.

Much Luv,

i for one am a newbie, i have only been ravin since november but i know how the old raves were and i know what has happened to the newer partys, and i have found that i enjoy the party a whole lot more sober than i ever did rolling. when i would go rolling i would just sit in the corner almost passed out. but now that i go sober i have met so many new people and i remember all of them!! i guess i am a little wierd but i like the fact that the media has given us a little attention.... the last party i went to there were only about 100 people there!! most of them were sober too.. i met a lot of new, nice people who i can remember...and i didnt get any bad vibes like i do at bigger parties. there were a lot of great vibes and i wish that every party was like that one was. but i also hate the media for just expsoing the bad parts of raves.... my friend was on dateline and the girl who was askin her quiestions didnt put all the good stuff my friend said on the tv...only the bad stuff and it really pissed us off. but now, we both are going to partys sober and we know not to talk to people who just ask 800 questions!! j/k...anywayz we both think that if everyone who just go to partys for the drugs would stop doin them at partys and do them some where else and then maybe all the other peoples who only go for the drugs will go away and we will have our scene back to the way it used to be!! PLUR!!

Im a newbie also. I just went to my first rave 2 months ago, and this weekend i wil be going to my 4th rave. The only complaint i have about the whole thing is that the media are the bad people. They come in here and ask us a hundred questions...all expecting bad answers. If you go to a rave and do some E, what harm can it do? I do E every time that i go...but i make completely sure that i don't throw any bad vibes....i mean, how can you? But with the drugs....i believe that E and weed (no, i dont do any other drugs besides e) should be the only ones there. Other drugs just aren't supposed to be there, and a lot of the time they ruin it.

i think that no drugs should be there and that all the vibes should be real and not drug induced ....if you want to do the drugs i think you should go to a house or somewhere else...personally, when i used to roll, i had more fun at houses then i ever did at a party b/c i would pass out a lot. drugs are everywhere and i dont mind them bein at the party but if your only goin for the drugs i think you shouldnt go at all....i know this is harsh but its my 2 cents. =) SMiLE!!

hi there, i am a raver/dj from anchorage alaska, the scene up here is just starting to get bigger, but not as big as any of the parties that are thrown throughout the lower 48. You may say that there are only about up to 30 "real ravers" that truly understand the definition of rave. i have been able to find spirituality through raving and it is a part of my everyday life. PLUR can not just be used at raves but also in real life. by living plur in the real world, people will see that ravers are not all about drugs but, really friendly, kind, and happy people. our scene is not all that, plus the drug part of it is nooo were near as bad as some places, i mean for example, we had our first "e" bust in april this year. It was the first time alaska has seen the drug up here. well, i hope our messages get out and touch others. peace, love, unity, and respect to you all, and maybe ill be able to share my vibe with you some day. See you soon through out our lives!

when i started ravin iwould go there and mostly just sit around all druged up on anything i got my hands on but threw it all there was always the love of the muzik. and gradualy i taperred off and went to more and more sober, its now rare that i go intoxicated of any kind. my point is this i think the inetial reaction to experiencing a rave is too go seek out all the diffrent kinds of screwed up u can get and explore, but when the exploration is done then u come alive and out of the chemicals and relize u can have a wonderfull meaningfull magnifisent event without them. and yah u might go back to the drugz every now and then but its never a big priority just some ambieance. thats what it was for me at least. but i think its a cycle that happens to lotz of people in the scene

well i agree with alot of what everyone on this pag says. myself being fairly new to the rave scene, have experienced something that i thought was only possible in the confines of your own home with that someone special. of course we al know that raves are better than anything you could possibly do in those conditions but i digress. unfortuneately like most people here the bad press of a few people who go a tad over board with the drug use and end up being carried away on stretchers has been a major down fall on the rave scene in my area aswell. as a matter of fact it has gotten t the point where even the djs are being frisked and if found with anything even remote they are halled away, leaving the promoter in a bit of a spot. none the less stuff happens. but havin gone to a fw raves and being able speak a little conversational french i feel i kow what i'm talkin about. if people......no... the newer younger generation could realize the treu meaning and feeling behind raves i think we could all get along. now i know what your thinkin, this guys only been to a few ravees right well thats al it took. i had never even heard of plur before and yet as soon as i gave that woman my ticket for the first rave and stepped inside i understood it. the drugs help you to keep going and gives some wicked visuals but once was all i needed to try them at a rave to realize that i really didnt need them. to have peole you dont even know come up to you and shake your hand or give you a kiss just for the simple fact of being there with them and xperiencing the absolute peace and freedom of the rave as the dj dropps the bass back in and you feel as though you will die if you dont move to the beat, i dunno if this makes sense to anyone else but thats been my experiences at all the raves i've been too. hopefully some of you who feel the rave is a simple answer to trying to find a place to get blasted read this and try to understand the sheer bliss created by the rave. Thank You.

We personally do not see drugs to be the biggest problem in our scene. Althought we are not old skoolers, we have seen the decline of the scene in the past couple of years, not because of the substances at the parties, but rather because the partiez lack the substance in themselves to make them great. The evidence of this is evident in the recent parties where the promoters have lost their will and desire to find new and exotice locations to throw these parties. Sometimes this is beyond there control as with the all too prevalent musik busts. What promoter wants to lose money on a busted location? But the icehouse and the nile are not suitable rave locations for every weekend. We do not advocate nor condemn drug use as it is a personal descision, but unless we want to see the further deterioration of the scene, we need to retain tact and subtlety. Dont sit on the dancefloor sniffing k in the cpen and leave the nitrous at home. do u really need this 30 second balloon high? Or do you honestly think that the rave scene will get positive feedback if dateline shows kids doing drugs and passing out? Also there is no excuse a 13 year old to be at a party, ecspecially a drugged-up 13 year old. The more mainstream partys get, the more we are going to see of this. It is sad and ridiculous to see these little kids walking around all messed up. The last party we went to we saw a girl who was about 12 in a spice girls' shirt who was rolling. Is this not gonna give the scene a bad reputation?. Please kidz, stop going for the drugz or because the scene is now in the mainstream. Start remembering and appreciating the true meaning behind this incredible scene: the love of the people, the life, and the atmosphere, and most importantly the love of the music. Peace, love, unity, and respect. Be safe and spread the love!*!*! :)

I was excited about the exposure that the media is giving us. The reason - Ever since the news started painting this hardcore underground drug picture, kids are starting to get smarter about how/where they use drugs or use them at all. I think it chekt alot of us as to why we go. I personally have gone to raves sober for the last three years w/o drugs - i was ignorant and never realized how much e was a part of the rave scene. MUZIK is my high ! Then I attended my first rave in phoenix "ecstatic appeal" AWESOME Then gradually - dealers started coming from everywhere at the last few raves i've been. I was asked so many times if i needed e, i thought I was the only sober fool in the joint. I can say now E is a wonderful thing, but don't make it the only reason you go. A magazine in the UK posted that 86% of ravers use every weekend when they go to a rave/discotek. Out of those 86% less than 5% think they are addicted. Tip to keep az raves goin' ---> Don't get addicted - stay true to P>L>U>R>

I HAVE BEEN RAVING FOR GOING ON THREE YEARS NOW I HAVE SEEN A BIG CHANGE IN EVERYTHING. THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DRUGS IN THE SCENE, BUT THEY ARE STARTING TO OVERTAKE PARTIES NOW. MOST PEOPLE MEET BY TALKING ABOUT DRUGS AND AKSKING WHAT THEY ARE ON. AND DEALING' ITS BECOME TRENDY NOW. YOU SHOULDN'T GO TO PARTIES TO MAKE MONEY, YOU SHOULD GO FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. THE MUSIC AND PEOPLE. IF YOU AUTOMATICLY THINK ABOUT DOING DRUGS WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT GOING TO PARTIES THAN YOU DONT BELONG THERE. IF YOUR LAYING ON THE FLOOR TO FUCKED UP TO MOVE THAN YOU DESERVE TO GET KICKED BE THE PEOLPE WHO ARE DANCING. I DONT MIND ALL OF THE INSTA-RAVERS THAT MUCH , BUT THEY NEED TO LEARN WHY WE ARE HERE, AND GIVE US AND THE SCENE A LITTLE MORE RESPECT. THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERY- THING, LOOK AROUND YOU NEXT TIME YOU EAT A PILL OR SNIFF SOMETHIN UP YOUR NOSE AND ASK YOURSELF IF THATS THE TIME OR PLACE FOR IT. MUCH LOVE TO ALL THE RAVERS AND PARTY KIDZ IN THE WORLD.:)

AIRCKA

I AGREE WITH AIRCKA I ALSO HAVE BEEN GOING TO PARTIES FOR 3 YEARS AND MAN HOW THEY HAVE CHANGED LIKE SHE SAID THE DRUGS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THEIR BUT MORE CONFINED, I CAN BARLEY STAND BEING AT A PARTY ANYMORE CAUSE ALL YOU SEE WHEN YOU WALK AROUND IS A WHOLE BUNCH OF LITTLE KIDS ALL DRUGED UP IN THE CORNER HALF OF THEM ARE PROBABLY UNDER THE AGE OF 14. I REALLY DONT LIKE WHERE THE SCENE HAS GONE THE NEW KIDS THAT HAVE COME IN HAVE NO RESPECT,I HAVE MET A COUPLE WHO UNDERSTAND I MEAN IM NOT TRYING TO SIT HERE AND SAY THAT ALL THE NEW SKOOL KIDZ DONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON CAUSE THATS NOT FARE BUT I AM SAYING THAT IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE SCENE DONT TRY TO WALK AROUND LIKE YOU KNOW IT ALL CAUSE YOU DONT. BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN GOING FOR 3 YEARS AND I SURE AS HELL DONT THINK THAT I KNOW IT ALL. SO IF YOU HAVENT BEEN TO RAVE SOBER SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GOING YOU SHOULD TRY IT

Drugs or not I go to raves for the music!!!!! whenever the music stops i leave so its easy for me to say that im there for the music.... We are here becuase we have a passion for comming together on the weekends and hearing some of the best dance music out there>>TRANCE<< speaking of out there all these little drugy kids need to stop going to raves becuase there the ones fucking it up for the scene... sooner or later all parties (if there is any) will require you to present an ID stating that your 21 or older... then raves will have to become the fake "clubber" scene!!!! We dont need to be in the spot light becuase we are "underground" that means we are not seen or heard!!!! in order for raves to be considered "raves" we need to stop with all the "biggest massive in arizona" and end up going out to an "emerald forest" underground parties are the best becuase all the people are mature and we all know our limits!!!!!!! breaking our limits usually happenes when we are ignorant and just dont know what the consequences are.... doing way to many drugs and passing out at a rave and/or dying from an overdose will bring on all the wrong consequences that the rave scene does not need at this time.. (THAT MEANS STOP DOING TOO MANY DRUGS AND STOP SELLING TO ALL THE LITTLE KIDS) if you do drugs know your limits, if you dont more power to you. we are here becuase we are here to spread plur not to show that we are better than one another or to get together and do drugs(drop and roll parties)...we are here becuase we need a way to let out stress from our jobs and family.... music is the only way i can let go of stress music is the only reason (other than the people) why i go to the raves.... and with out raves you and other people will have to deal with me while im at work..... dont mess it up with doing to many drugs..... thats the only thing the media has on us.... with out all the drama from the drugs they couldn't say anything about raves...(thats the only thing that could be wrong with the rave scene) if you mess it up it can go 2 ways....The first thing is that raves will go underground.... the second thing is that raves will no longer be underground and that will take all the fun out of being a raver!!!!! sure you can still dance but it will be with the general public..... for all you druged up people that mess up the scene just realize that chances are you are going to be at the non-rave rave going on at the club with your drugs.... and for all the mature people you are going to be at the true underground rave where you belong......

if you disagree sorry if you agree then you have been around a little longer than the people that are messing up the scene... P.L.U.R. to all the people that still believe in the power of love.....

if you have any questions of comments feel free to e-mail me!!!!

Who make's the choice to do drugs or not? You and for you only. People are going to make there own choices. That is why Telling them to say no is the wrong way to go about the drug problems. I live in a small town of about 40,000 people. I went to my first party 1 1/2 years ago, when in this town...it was the stereo typical "uncool" thing to do. But over the past few months it suddenly has become the "coolest" thing to do. Yet most have never been to a party, but they consider themselves "Ravers" because they roll everyweekend at a little club that rarely plays any kind of trance, house, ect. Seeing these kidz do this does something to me inside. Angry for seeing them disrespect the scene, yet sad for knowing that they are followers, and seeing them waste such precious time they have pretending. Seeing the all messed up all the time has made me relize that no matter what parents, schools, ect. do, No is not the answer. EDUCATION is. I have taken it upon myself (no matter the trouble i could get into) to educate these kidz. For I believe that if they are going to take the drugs, than they should at least have the knowlegde to understand these drugs. Kinda like this-- Would you rather jump from a plane, before learning how to use the parachute, or would you rather educate yourself first and learn how the parachute works before you jump. Your Still going to jump, but at least now you know what to expect and what may happen. ONE LOVE IN ONE WORLD.

I have been raving for 3 years, though i dont consider myself an "Elitest", I have experienced first hand how raving has changed. I think when you look at the whole situation. The music, the drugs, the media, the lack of love... you cant really determine one distinct thing that has gone wrong with raving today, I live in the San Francisco Bay area, and i've watched raves grow, explode with popularity and eventualy die. I dread saying this but real raving is dead. Thats right folks. and it wont be back til, we as ravers learn to embrace the responsibility of throwing parties for the right reasons.

Raving to me, isnt a place where you go to get "high". But sadly it is to alot of people. I am not anti-drug activist, and I do support the educated use of some illegal substances, but there is a certian responsibility that goes right along with drug use. And if you run the risk of hurting yourself or someone else. Then you lack that responsibility, and you shouldnt be using. drugs distort perceptions, be prepared and safe.

As far as the Media is concerned, Its all fu*king Propaganda. Don't b*tch and moan about the media misrepresenting the rave scene. Thats their job, they make fu*ked up and baised arguments about everything, instead of complaining, we need to change the issuses that they attack so vigoursly, namly drug-use. dont avertise the fact that your rolling. It's your disicion, great. but don't ruin the vibe for everyone else. Keep in mind that were all in it for the same reason, no matter if you started tonight, or your been raving since the day you were born.

As for P.L.U.R., PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH, I've seen too many ravers advertise how deep of a meaning PLUR has. PLUR dosent have and ON/OFF switch, when you roll or rave you cant just flip on the PLUR, and act like the rest of your life doesn't exist. I have come to accept a general feeling of togetherness with all ravers, simpily because i share the love of the music and dance with everyone of them. sometimes this feeling is so strong that i feel a sence of enlightenment and peace. And think... All this without drugs. I feel like PLUR is something that you have to find inside yourself.

Lets work together to bring it back peeps,
Peace Out,

thapibb

Howdy das pibb :)

This is stictly my own opinion, but this is how I feel PLUR applies to an indivdual within the whole- Peace-freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions Love-strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties Unity- the quality or state of being made one Respect-high or special regard for a person or thing.

Now what do you do with these things? Its been my own experinence that you must have these things inside you before you can start to apply them to the scene and other people. How many people, including yourself, can say you have even one of those attributes, if not all. Peace of mind, love for yourself and those around you, the feeling of unity with those around you-not just your friends, and respect of yourself and your elders and peers. Their all hard to attain and take a lot of time to gain, specially these days.

So the point is, is do you want to try to have these things? Im unsuccessful in having them most of the time, but I try to and that makes a bigger difference than just doing whatever I might feel like at the moment.

PLUR is transending your human nature and belongs in everyday life, a rave being a good, comfortable practice ground.

May the Force be with you yound Jedi's.

Here's a little poem of mine that I thought I would share with anyone who shall run across this page or even someone who checks it on a regular basis. I hope you enjoy it. :)

"One Night"
For one night we can be free,
You can be loved for being you
and I can be loved for being me.
For one night we can make a friend
possibly forever or just until the end,
and just for that one night you can find
acceptance from one another possibly
from a girl or a boy or possibly even a mother.
But no matter what you find or what you do
maybe you'll see a certain light maybe you'll
never see it again...but you did see it for that
one night.
That one night is full of joy and hugs, lots of soft
toys and a whole bunch of cuddle bugs.
Sparkaly shirts, and glowing faces, people from all
around and everyone from tons of different races.
A kind and cheerful greeting no one making fun
of anyone and no one competing.
Just dancing to a beautiful harmonic sound with
our hearts open and our feet dancing on the ground.
And when this night is done and the new sun shines
on the sky you can look up and think...It was the people
and the music that got me high.
And so as we leave each other to go our seperate ways
you can always know maybe because of that one night
you'll have a brighter day.

Well that's my poem so I hope I get some good responses from it and like I said I hope everyone enjoys it.

Peace party kids and PLUR!!! :) :) :)

i just went to my first rave...it was here in Arizona...I have to say that the media does affect the way ppl see raves...before i went I have to admit i was a bit i guess u can say "scared" i didnt know what to expect, But what i learned after going was that a Rave is one of the funnest and i have to say safe place to be. There was plenty of security and well...i mean you can do E....which i know helps add to the whole affect but if you are, just watch out for yourself...do it at your own risk and dont hurt yourself and hurt all other ravers by reducing the chances of being able to continue raving. :)

I would just like to say that I started raving about two years ago it completly changed my life .my whole life I represent the rave scene everywhere I go it has changed my attitude about everything from people to music and renewed my faith in our generation .there are drugs around in every scene concerts, baseball games,it doesn't matter where you are.everyone is complaining about how drugs are becoming to much of a part of our scene but its always been there always will be.ecstacy is just the only thing being represented right now. it is up to all the true ravers out there to represnt what raving is really all about.so stop complaining and stop hiding who really are .the only way to straighten the public out is by representing the scene.let people know that its not about getting high on drugs its about getting high on the vibe its about opening your mind, meeeting friends and having the oppurtunity to take those friendships to higher levels of platonic intimacy that you could never achieve in any other atmosphere .its a place to be free from societys burdens and just be.p.l.u.r. bring the noise see you at groove tonight9/16/00 natasha phx

I have only been going to raves for a few months, but I think that I have a pretty good idea of what it is all about. It is not just about the drugs, it is about the music. Many people misunderstand that at parties. Some just like to see how fucked up that they can get. At a recent party, a guy died from an overdose and everyone was shocked. These people need to learn that if you ARE going to do drugs, you need to be careful and know your limit and don't go to raves just for that reason.

I am not going to say that I never get fucked up at raves, but thats not the reason that I go there. I go there to meet people and have fun. That is the way that it should be. If you are going to get fucked up, be careful and know your limit. Peace

I haven't even been to one single rave yet!. So I don't know if I should even be responding.. BUt I do listen to the music and a couple of my friends have been raving. They mostly talked to me about the drugs but the bigger idea behind it was how everyone was so nice and it was different from a club which is what they were used to going to They really enjoyed it and the music.. LAtley I have been really intrested and have been learing about raving from other ravers and the internet..I have also been really trying to get to a rave in madison Wisconsin try to see what its all about...(that's the closest rave to where I live) But I can't find a way so Ill just wait... BUt If anyone has anything to help me learn more I would really like to know??And not to be stupid or anything but I don't know what PLUR means so could someone help me with that???

Whad up Kids!?....I totally agree with what Joel is saying...the rave scene has come in contact with lots of e-tards(no one take effense)...people who go there just to get messed up..i will admit..ive gone to some just to get messed up, but also to have fun with my fellow ravers..but hey who hasnt right?...anywhoo~the rave is exactly what you said it is P.L.U.R. but that means that you gotta respect the "ravers" who go there just to get messed up...and thats what i think P.L.U.R. is all about~ Peace Love Unity and Respect..you gotta respect the "ravers" who go there cause they think its the new thing or the cool thing or what everybody is doing today or whatever. You just gotta remeber why your there and why most of the people are there at that moment and that is what its all about~everyone being there for one thing!~Peace Kids~Rave Safe~Love ya!

Love,
Trixxe

I've only been going to raves for about a year and a half now, and I totally agree that there are now a lot of drugs. But where aren't there a lot of drugs? The thing that is the worst is seeing people all pissed because they're not on any drugs. It's stupid. I admit to going to raves and doing drugs a couple of times, but the times I went sober were just as good and beautiful. It's not about the drugs, it's about the music, and people that go and think otherwise are bad vibes and need to stay the hell out. It's all about the peace, love, music and dancing, and people that don't see that don't know the true meaning of raves.

To trixxy up there we E-tards aren't just there to do drugs buddy that's the candy ravers. E-tards just do ecstacy when they can because they like the roll feelings with the music. True E-tards ussually roll only at parties anyways so get it right pal.;)

I like alot of people am new to the whole scene. My older brothers got me involved by hearing my first techno cd, i was amazed! it had such energy, then they showed me how to dance with glowsticks and told me what a rave was like and i just had to go but i was too young according to my parents. That was in 96 and finally in 99 on aug. 6th i got to go to my first one, superstars. we parked in the parking lot and i could hardly contain myself, the beat was heavy and you could see the lights and smoke rolling out the door, and as i went in i was absolutely astounded. every one was dancing and jumping around having fun. I felt like that was where i should have been every saturday. I look back on that party now and the parties ive been to since and that one had a bad vibe but still i fulfilled my purpose that night so it wasnt too bad but still there was three fights and an OD. People need to leave there bad attitudes at home cause to other first timers im sure that would leave a bad impression. I may still be somewhat new but i understand the meaning of a rave and thats what counts.

To NID: (and everyone else) :)

Kandy Kids are not the problem, nor should we be the scapegoat for all ravers to use when problems arise. It's completely unfair to say that all Kandy Kids are E-tards. I for one, have never done drugs, at a rave or not. I can speak the same for my friends. We can all speak the meaning of a rave as if it were a reflex. We, all ravers, need to band together and fight the problem, not turn around and blame each other. We're a family that is on the brink of extinction. Don't aid in the destruction.

Drugs make you feel the music if you need to take drugs to feel the music then thats cool there will always haters saying there bad and thats not what raves are for that what i think there for so i go and take lots of drugs

well, i'm not an expert on raves, i went to my first one 2 yrs ago. And i'll admt at first i just sat and watched, butraven is about more than that and thats when i realized i wanted to be a raver. I didn't get into it b/c of drugs, i mean sure drugs are great(to a certain point) but i don't need them to dance and be happy at a party. just hearing the music seeing the people and the lights is enough of a high for me to be happy. I agree with alot of the things said above, and i think to many people that don't understand are going to raves and also to many are judging raves based on the drugs without ever actually trying it out. i wish raves would go back underground, and maybe we'd loose some of the candy kids who are only into parties to drop some E or sniff some k. I'm not saying that theres anything wrong w/ doing drugs, but there is something wrong w/ going justfor that. if you can't enjoy yourself there w/o drugs then don't go. well thats just about all i have to say for now so everyone go out have fun, be safe and dance. <3 love always <3 candy kid forever --Renee--

My roomate and I are working on a drug education site. So many times we would be headed to a rave or just throwing a party. It was hard to have to sift through all the medical BS to tell us the basic information we needed to know. We devised a site that compiles all of the information we found. Check it out and let give me some feed back! Its not near finished, but we hope everyone learns how to use drugs safely.

Kids screw every good thing up. But I can't bitch at them because when I waz there age I did the same thing thats why I do drugs today. Yea I like raves but I would never hit a little kid up with anything at one, cause I don't want them to be like me.

To all of the straight edge ravers. dont dog X or anything because if you would try it you would realize that the music sounds a bilion times better adn the energy is so cool. peace.

PLuRR, This was my original understanding of a "Ravers Motto" Peace Love Unity Respect and Responsibility. All of these should be a important truthful aspect of every person who attends. I remember a time when everyone came and shared the experience just because. Not for drugs and not to get some. Our scene is turning into a not so friendly drug war. I feel this is unfair to new comers all they see are a bunch of horny drug addicts, not fun loving people who are creative and unique. I believe everyone should help bring back our canned food parties! That came about because we wanted fun and not money or drugs. Are first meaning was a bunch of societies misfits who came together as a family to unite as one and always share a common goal. To have respect for one another and responsibility for everyone around us. To look out for eachother out of love. This is our purpose and like all original purposes the original meaning has been lost. So the next time you see that little boy/girl in the corner all scared reach out your hand and be a friend. Because it is not about the drugs it is about us!! Bring back our meaning!

Everybody needs to remember that everyone is different, and we all have fun in different ways. As long as we are all having fun, that is ALL that matters. Life is about stimulation, and nothing else. Who cares what the media thinks? Who cares what your neighbors think. If you KNOW what you are about, then Dateline stories should not even be an issue. DOn't let someone else's lifetsyle stop you from having fun. And don't try to change people, because trying to convert people is the father of hate. Teach through tolerance.

I've been in the NYC rave scene for over a year now. Since then I've been to many a rave. Many. And I've come to know the ins and outs of just about every aspect of the rave. As someone who came into the scene with a group of about 50 friends, I've noticed a couple of things. Some of us took to the rave scene, some took to the club scene, some just follow others but one thing is the same throughout the group. Drugs use to enhance the fun, now drugs are the fun. Don't get me wrong, not everyone is like that. I for one have never taken any illegal sunstance and you might be saying to yourself "then shut your pie hole!' but I'm not trashing on those who do. Afterall, all my friends are on something, save a few...what I'm getting at is everyone has to come to a realization about their drug use. It can't be pushed on anyone or any thing like that, it just has to come with time, hopefully it'll reach you in time. I'm not talking death or anything but something equally as bad. I'm talking about how doors start to close and pretty soon you're trapped. I've seen it happen and it isn't pretty. I think I'd choose death over a life with with no outlets. For me the rave scene is about the hard house and hardcore or in other words, the music. Perhaps if more people went back to that, the scene would not be as big a topic for the media circus as it is. That's all i have to say about that.

my fist rave was a month ago and i am now on my second rave. hopefully the 3rd one can be as peasurabe as the others.im goin to metropolis since i live in S.Francisco. i have taken E and i think that it really gives you a good vibe but its the way you act twords it. you need to have self conto when you take it. you need to know how to handle it and if you cant then take it when you know you can handle it. i see alot of young teens like 12 and 13 yr old all passed out and they need to know the meaning of E and self contol. E woudnt be so bad if little kids and adults were over dosing over it. it did as i heard made the rave scene different but thats the way life is and hopefully one day some people can do something about it. i will continue taken it because i know i have self control and i really love the music......

P.L.U.R is cool and I guess could be fun,
I like watching glowsticks,
but I do not own none,
candy necklesses are good,
and I like the vicks,
I like to hear the music and my thoughts mix,
I think everyone is entitled to their own,
But should re-evaluate there outlook on the party zone,
I f you wanna have fun and really really feel,
Take a deep breath, light a cigerratte and down five pills

I need information about raves like what happens there what type of drugs and people are there and also on the music, see i am doing a report for school and i need all the information i can get, good and bad info. Jessie

raves are an experience! you dont have to do drugs to experince a good rave, thats your choice! you go to raves to listen to the music, dance, chill, whatever you want to do! there are no set rules!drugs help people to appreciate and really feel the music, some ppl chase the buzz, and some ppl believe they are finding out the meaning of life etc, but you dont need 2 be druged up to apreciate a good rave!

i completely agree!! i am doing a class sppech on why raves are a good place and why they are not just about drugs and almost everyone in class is like oh ravers are nothin but a bunch of etards and i tell them dont hate on the scene if you dont know what its about!! people dont need drugs to have a good time i go for the dance and the music i love it the drugs aren't addictive the lifestyle is what's so addictive if these little tennie boppers could honestly see that then we wouldn't have such a bad reputation but all in all PLUR to everyone out there and keep the scene alive not the drugs!

I've been going to parties well longer than any of you kids i've read about here. The scene has changed much. You use to be able to goto a party and would know 95% of the people. Now, people just want to fit in. The scene is not for everyone. Now, you have to take a big chance if you want to get X from someone. I personally go for just the music, the dj, and what little people I know thats left in the scene. Most of which that aren't left are out of it because of dumbfuck kids who bring bad drugs, rip people off, and fight. If you can't bring anything good to the scene stay the f*ck out.

I've been sadden recently at a popular LA club by seeing all the young children as I would call them, under the influence of some serious drugs, and not just "E". I am a true raver, loyal to the music and the DJ's. I can name you names of everyone because that's what I'm there for! Just recently I've noticed tons of undercover checking out the scene and at times I feel tempted to turn some of the drug dealers in because they don't care what they're selling as long as the money keeps flowing. I met a raver about six months ago, and just recently I stopped seeing her at the clubs. We'll apparently she got into drugs and is now 6 feet under. The guy selling her the shit just bought himself a brand new BMW, what the f***'s wrong with that picture!! I would never advise people to use drugs but if you do it, do it responsibly, don't abuse it! Parents should try and teach their kids better and not just blame society. This will be my last summer raving, and I hope to enjoy whatever is good out there!

To say spirituality is all about the church, i feel is nieve. Just like someone would say raving is all about the actual celebration. Do we not live life each day at a time? Why wait for the damn weekends? I really feel like we're emulating the hippie movement. We have our own philosophy, terminiology, ect.. its just very contridictory. We comminicate our bodies with the pulsating "chaotic" music. why do we bounce off eachother. We preach of PLUR, what bullshit.. Isnt a roll taken to induce an alternate state of consciousness, let alone the subcoltural vivbe? So i dont understand why we should secretly try to impose "normalcy" on ourseleves, when the goal is to achieve a new free attitude towards life

Why are we here? A question thats daunted mankind since its first capacity to create individual thought. Why do we rave? This question is probably far greater of a task to explain. This can only be answered by a feeling, an invisible force that unites every soul in a massive moving crowd. Recently, the scene has become corrupt and numb to that feeling for most. However, no matter how huge the scene gets, and no matter how corrupt it gets there will always be those who awaken and in that brief glimpse of true reality, understand why we are here. When the music hits that perfect peak, when every body dancing around you moves in a perfect blend of rythem and soul, when you look to a stranger next you and you feel that beautiful vibe for the first time, you will know. The true scene is a scene inside a scene. When you see someone too trashed to dance, when you see someone who is blind to this vibe you will know why we are here. We are here to spread the vibe, to educate, to feel, and to dance. Ignorance should not outcasted, it should be isolated and explained. All of the younger ravers out there who don't understand should be educated, and helped. We are the gaurdians of an ancient rite in modern times. Our perception...is our gift. Our motive...is pure and uncut passion...which is stronger then any drug on this planet. You want to get high? Guide someone from the darkness into the light of the vibe. Then, and only then...will you understand why we are here.

- Subrosa

i am new to the rave scene....and i agree that many people go to raves for the drugs.....i think its ok to go to raves and take drugs.....but i think you should go there for more than just drugs....the music the people....we are like a culutre...a comunity....true ravers, people that are there for the music and the people....thats why i go....they are the best people you will ever meet....Thats why i go to raves.~*D*~

I do believe that all of the above testaments to the fun and 'enlightenment' of the rave scene and drugs (such as E), are an excellent example of why there should be drug laws. The spelling alone, boggles the mind. Not surprising, I guess, knowing how X affects the brain. On the positive side, the Partnership for a Drug Free America could get all their future commercial ideas from this guestbook alone.

PS-hardcore will never die...........

I just think it's funny to see all the new stuff they come up w/. I have been ravin for about a 1 1/2. I feel that the scene has become a rampid run of designer drugs that are bunk, and the people are fake. Who are these kids w/ all that candy on any hoo? and what ever happened to all the liguid dancers???

Angel Peace

hey I'm A noob that just moved to LA from the east coast.I also just went to my first rave here.Awesome I agree with most...

if your goin' to roll get educated first.and don't make it a norm.If you just want to go and get high space your attendance a few months apart....trust me.

I don't think theres anything wrong with E but those guys who make it an everyday thing are f@cked up. i go every month or so and yes I do roll but I plan ahead with a dd and make sure i don't piss anyone off. so all you everyday rollers....stay at home once in awile is o.k. just be safe

P.L.U.R

i just want to say that people at raves may hurt you, its not true theyre all into peace and love and all that. i was at a squat on saturday and i almost got abducted by this sleazy guy, and i thank god that my friend was there to help me, coz if she hadnt have been who knows what wouldve happened to me. admittedly it was my own fault partly too because i was given a load of stuff free and couldnt say no but i wasnt up at that point when the guy tried it on. be careful, be safe, you dont know whos out there, and you dont know what theyre planning. and look out for eachother.

all i would like to say is that i have been raving for years, and i have not once been hurt or hurt another raver, nor have i seen anyone hurt. The only thing thats hurting a person is the drugs, i was here when it was good, before people would think of the word, etc, now all the new kids that come think thats what its all about. Its not, its about the PLUR, peace, love, unity, and respect. and for the music, dancing, glow sticks, and the fun with yourself, with others, and meeting new people. A rave as i see it has been commonly mistaken for a club. I totally disagree with this. and everything i have written is what i feel, i wish not to offend anyone by it, so if i do, write and tell me how you feel. thanks, plur.

stephanie rinaldi

why are you discussing this. you do drugs, go to the rave, come home, and do drugs its a perferct cycle. Your all wierd for thinking theres something behind it all.

walter the third

i agree with stephanie rinaldi. im new 2 tha rave scene and i luv it for everything she haz listed... the feelingz of peace, luv, unity and respect. ravez r about feelin tha vibez and presence of other human beingz enjoying experiences 2getha. letz not 4get wat itz all about...look out 4 each otha and expand ur mind :) tessa

I doubt anyone will read this message for this page has like 1000 friggin feedbacks, but I say we should all get collected at our parties. At our events such as burningman shamBhala, and other massive huge events where people from all around North America and the world talk and share as a community on what we need to accomplish to make our parties the sickest. Fuck the politcs, the junkies, the drugs, the twinkies that think hardhouse and KAnDY are what raving is all about, and the hurrtin azz reputation glowsticks have given us (its all fuckin cheeze). its a about good flow, a sence of community, peace and good will to others, and the many teachings our good hippie friends have taught us many years before. A true raver already knows the words i speak of but i quess what i am saying from experiance is maybe we need to start taking more controll over who can and cannot come our parties. i really hate to say this but i belive it to be true. we really need to kill the fuckin glowstick scene for all it does is build a hype that brings litte kids that have come down and see some crazy light show and pop E till 8 or 9 in the morning going home looking like trash, bringing our good reputation there was 10 years ago to the ground. i may sound like a hipricate for I do use drugs such as XtC and LsD my self (every now and then) and i myself was once one of those little hurt twinkies i speak of. however i have learned many resects as to use drugs for my own pleasure. not to do them just to be cool and fit in with this new fad called RaVing. for if that same someone who came up to me for my first party showed me the truth not the cheeze well then i would have learned the many true ways and meanings it takes to be a raver right off from the begining. i hope many of u can relate and spread this message but who knows maybe i am the retarted one just talking smack like some craked out jib teck

{NAH}~~~~~~{*_*}~~~(0_0)~~~~{'_'}~~~~~~~~

Peace out and Good Karma To all those deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so all of you have preached PLUR but exactly how peaceful, loving, unifying and respectful are you really being? Putting down the "teenies" that are starting to get into the scene is hardly what i'd call accepting. I'm sure that none of you have been in the rave scene since the day you were born. We all have to start somewhere, don't we? Life is about experience. Maybe some of the "teenies" will stay in the rave scene, maybe they won't. How would you feel if somebody had denied you your first rave experience? You wouldn't be where you are today putting down the people that you once were. I honestly believe there's too much talk about raves - it seems to numb or dull the experience. Too much analytical thought before, during or afterwards and I find that I don't enjoy my night nearly as much if i'd just accepted. And ultimately, that's what it's about isn't it? Having a good night? If you go there and spend the whole time annoyed at the amount of "teenies" there, you won't have nearly as good a night if you'd just had fun being with yourself, your friends and meeting new people. Let them be, the "rave world" does not purely belong to the ravers. To truly exercise "PLUR" you have to accept everyone. Let them be themselves, and you be yourself. Peace, love, unity and respect to you all!

I am from San Francisco. My first Rave was COME-UNITY,it was held at a club in the Mission Dist. in S.F.There was a crowd of 600, the most beautifull people I have ever meet.I was hooked.I wanted my son to experience this scene. He was 13 at the time. His first party was a "Full Moon" on the beach. That was 18 years ago.My son is now 31, I am 53!And we are still going strong. It's to the heart beat.I am a woman by nature ,a raver by choice. Love, peace and the Beatzz Regina

I love to rolllllllllll and feel good while enjoying people music & love i love drugas and dont want to stop i think drugs have nothing to do with PLURR its the mindstate drugs or no drugs you are still you nothing can take that untill you die when i here that music and im on a trip or not i feel great the drugs just enhance that greatness i think everyone should at least try it MUCH LUV PLurR

I have been in the scene sice 98' im 18 now going on 19... when i started it was al about plur and it still is. people see raves as a plaace to do drugs but not me. yea i roll but i just started to slow it down just last weekend on new years eve.i feel that everyone should just listen to the music cuz thats what its about.its a concert and we all love concerts right????well i am right... i love xtc but i can go with out rollin its all abpout the plur.. come on people DONT PUSH US UNDERGROUND AGAIN!!!!PLEASE!!!the scene is just getting up in AZ again much love ...Peace love unity and respect my friends .....PEACE my name is dj NOTE COME TO MY PARTIES IF YOU WANT MUSIC

People the rave scene has always been about drugs. No drugs, no rave. I have never been to a rave where I could honestly say more than half of the people there weren't fucked up on something. Don't be naive. I love raves and all, but I'm not gonna pretend there aren't drugs there.

PLUR means respect, whether you do drugs or not. People go through cycles in life and go through some hard times. not sure what you people keep referring to "what PLUR really means."

Rave=Drug I am 22 years old and I have been raving since I was 16, I am not sure I will ever stop. I have been eating beans since before then and I am perfectly fine. Techno, Drums and Bass and Trance were made for beans and we all know it.

I am all for promoting peace love unity and respect but it goes beyond that even as a communtiy of ravers we should accept everyone for who they are. the drugs don't make the raver nor do kik wears. I have seen the biggest djs in the us and been to the biggest parties yet I wear one candy necklace and don't look like a "raver" we are a family man and there is nothing that can change that not even newcomers who are in it for the drugs, notability, or whatvever it maybe that they came for. Just know that bass drives us to live. I rave to be free. I rave to be spiritual. I rave to feel alive.

PLuR- Please let us rave

I am married with 2 kids and live in Cali.I went to my first "rave" when I was 15 in 1991, my last one was probably 2001.I was wondering what ever happened to these parties. My husband is a shy skateboarder that listens to hip hop that hated these things and I was never able to get him to go to one.I saw two little ravers at Disneyland last weekend and it made me sad.Remember that your life as you know it is not forever, so have fun however you have it, just be safe and happy!Keep dancing because that is one of the most natural ways your body can make you "high".I remember thinking the same way all of you think, believe me, society will always have something negative to say about things they don't understand. So aas long as you keep your own community (meaning your parties)organic, no one can take them away from you. Please spread your "PLUR" to everyone in everyday life because that's who needs it the most, it's contagious!! I remember loving to see the coolest old dude who was in his 50's who was at every major party just dancing like there's no tomorrow... that's what it was all about. I hope he is still doing okay.Take care everyone and love yourselves enough to make good choices. You have the best thing going on right now,Imiss everything about it, be careful! We still smoke weed though.PS Does anyone know what happened to Jay from Magic Wednesdays? He kinda just fell off...

Like the last email. I too went to my first rave (in the UK) in 1992 and kept gpiong for a few years and then fell off (it's a natural progresion!) At the time, and I assume it's still the case now, I reckon about 95% of the people there (no exaggeration) were popping pills. I myself was one of the few who didn't take pills and I had a great time. For me it really was about the music, and the atmosphere was great, even though I admit the PLUR (as you guys call it) I think was mainly drug induced (put those same people in a room with a bar and you probably won't get so much PLUR!) Having said all of that, I did finally try e about 6 years later, so I also appreciate what people see in it. Good fun, but come downs are not fun, and although it probably won't kill you, just like any other drug, if you do it in excess, I hear it does mess with your brain, liver, (and a number of ex-users blame it for eventually causing lon, long, periods of severe depression (which is like havng a come down for two years, 24/7 - take it from me, it's not fun). So, I guess no easy answers. As the lady above said, enjoy yourself whilst you can. Life moves on & changes, and even if it's for the better, it's true, you don't get those moments back. So enjoy the moment whilst it lasts and try not to do anything in excess, even if it is the best feeling you've ever had! Finally, a word on the word 'ecstacy' - what an understatement!

Hell, I've never been to a rave....but, i've become immersed in the culture of it. But! Hearing about everyone being fucked up...makes me want to change my mind. I've heard E can kill you the first time you take it...A lie? Or not? But, I don't want to be the idiot not doing drugs, and feeling out of place. Now, i'm carefully thinking if I still want to go..

i've been going to parties since i turned 13...i'm 21 now...

I've seen scenes in springfield, Mo; St. Louis, Mo; and Kansas City die and try to come back to life and it is due in a large part to drugs but also to the media and the hype over our club drugs. I made a choice after i had been raving for over 4 years to take my first pill, I knew what xtc was, how it worked, the chemicals that made up the compound, the other drugs the cut it with, and the dangers. I also knew how to take care of myself and my limitations. Once I got to KC I was eating pills like skittles but I could handle it. I truly believe that it's the lil baby ravers that see us old skoolers and idolize us, and in doing that they do what we do and wind up overdosing or coming close to overdosing. The baby ravers do keep our scene alive without them there's nothing to keep going but they also take things too far. KNOW YOURSELF, KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS, KNOW YOUR DRUGS. At the very least if you're gonna do it. Seriously.

I started going to parties because the music moved me. Once that first house record was spun and the first beat was dropped I was never the same, and I never will be the same I love my music, dance, and party.

I don't believe in PLUR anymore simply because people don't truly practice it. There is more clicks, drama, and negative club people than ever and I just can't see it going back to the way it was when I first started.

There was no drama, people went to get away from normal life and feel something bigger than themselves for at least 8 hrs a week or month or whatever. People practiced the original PLUR, yes ladies and gents it was spelled with two R's once upon a time...PLURR. Peace, Love, Unity, Respect, Responsibility. There was a sense of peace, everyone loved everyone else, everyone was unified under the premis of the music and the feeling of being free, everyone respected everyone there wasn't any madness going on, and responsibility everyone knew they had things to do and lives to get back to. That second R also meant it was your responisibility if you took drugs know what your doing it's your body....

People can sit and preach about PLUR all day long but until you know the feeling of the actual PLURR you have no clue. At least that's my opinion....

I am now a sober raver with a family and feel as strong about that as the day i wrote it on purerave.com
....
